Update on the depression…

June 19th, 2013 (04:11 pm)

I had to go for a counselling session today – which wasn’t at all what I expected. Apprently the NHS don’t DO one-to-one depression counselling. That’s nice.

Instead of which this woman who said she was a depression therapist (I’m guessing that’s not a ten year medical training post) and has booked me on : (wait for it…)

a “Positive Wellbeing Workshop”

gah. Tell me, anyone who knows ANYTHING about me (even when fit and well and completely undepressed) does this sound like something I’m going to like?

It all sounds a bit happy-clappy to me. I’m betting there will be kum-ba-yaing and group hugs. and ….*shudder* improvisational mime.

the only 1 to 1 they do is an organisation in Lowestoft, which I'd have to drive there, and then you only get a "certain number" of sessions and after that you have to pay. PAY??

That's rubbish!

Admittedly, the counselling I had wasn't specialist depression counselling, and it was of infinte duration - at the end of the first session the counsellor discussed how many sessions he thought might be appropriate, but it was at least at my local GP surgery.

It really baffles me how we all pay the same NI yet there's so much variance even with provision for basic needs... (and yes, in my books, support and counselling for depression is a basic need)

*was in no way of infinite duration.

Honestly, one of these days I'll learn to read before hitting 'Post'!
