Worst. day.

June 29th, 2013 (04:31 pm)

thing that have cocked up today

1. Cant find my glasses. ANYWHERE. i always put them by the bed but not there, and not anywhere else.  I’m sure they’ll turn up, but trouble is, WITHOUT glasses, it’s hard to just look generally.

2. two calls from hospital to tell me dad’s had a fall “he needs someone looking after him 24/7 but we don’t have the staff….”

3. can’t go to hospital because of 1.

4. Optician can’t see me till monday. Will have to drive there, squinting and hope I don’t get pulled over. Unlikely they can do the glasses on the day so could be “a couple of days” could be “a week” – great! whoever said “should have gone to specsavers” should be SHOT.

5. keep losing other stuff because of 1.

6. Have chest infection

7. got my first ever speeding ticket through the post. I know. I know. But I am the proverbial slug, maximum of 50 or 60 depending on the road but this time i was going 35 in a 30 zone and I saw the police van too late. I hope that everyone who was behind me going the same speed got a ticket too.  Never had one before, my licence is SPOILED.

apart from that, everything’s fucking great. How’s you?

"Some days are like that. Even in Australia."

Hang in there and hope you find your glasses. I'm legally blind without mine so i totally sympathize.

Me? I showed up at work at 5:30 AM. Turns out my job is 5:30 PM.

Agreeing with Angelia via icon.

There may be a conservation of eyeglasses thing going on - the proper-strength readers that had gone missing for a week turned up in my car today, seemingly out of thin air.

I'm no longer at "parent orientation" for the kiddo's uni, so this makes today a huge improvement over the last two as far as I'm concerned.

This is exactly the kind of thing that convinced me about Mercury Retrograde. It went retro late June 26. Next day, I lost an earpiece off the glasses that are the only ones that comfortably work for computer distance.

I hope yours turn up.

A ticket for 5 mph??? Christ, the cops must have been unusually constipated. In most of the US, 5 miles is safe; in Canada, 10 km is usually not going to get you a ticket.

Hope your chest clears up. Do you suppose it could be stress?

Willing to bet the cops had revenue targets to meet and were short on fines issued coming up on the end of the month. It's always more dangerous to speed around the end of the month around here!

Hm. Makes sense. But what idiots!

Does the UK have "traffic school?" In most places in the US, you can have a first ticket expunged if you take n hours of "training."

Oh, i'm in the US too! (New England.) It's been so long since my first ticket I didn't even remember traffic schol was an option here... worth checking into for Erastes, I suppose.

sadly, traffic school only applies if you are over sixty miles an hour not for the lower levels. It's a fair cop - it was a school stretch, so that's probably why they were parked there. But still. I was so proud of a clean licence.

Ah, well. You have so many other things to be proud of... everyone gets hit in a speeding trap sooner or later.
